Introduction to Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy

Introduction to Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy provides an overview of human sexuality and counseling for sexual concerns. Students explore a theology of sexuality, a model for addressing sexual issues in counseling, the basics of sexual biology and psychology, sexual development, sexual dysfunction, and common intervention techniques for sexual problems. 

The course also encourages students to reflect on their own sexual attitudes, beliefs, theology, and development.

Introduction to Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy

Introduction to Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy is the prerequisite for all other ISW courses, offering an overview of: a brief history of sexology, reproductive anatomy/physiology, sexual response, sexual dysfunctions, basic interventions for common sexual problems, sexual development and identity, typical and atypical sexual behavior, compulsive sexuality, and an introduction the effect of trauma on sexuality.

Informed by current research, students will survey the field of sexology and sex therapy, examine their own sexual attitudes, and begin to explore and define a Biblical and practical theology of sex.
