Licensure

Applicants for certification with ABCST must be licensed professionals in a therapy related profession (i.e., Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker, Professional Counselor, Mental Health Counselor, Psychiatrist, Physician, Clinical Nurse Practitioner).

Professional Standing

• You must be fully licensed (able to practice independently in your state) in order to become certified by ABCST.

• Proof of licensure will be required upon application for certification.

• Your license must remain valid to maintain your ABCST Sex Therapist Certification.

Note: You may choose to begin your sex therapy education while pursuing a Masters or Doctorate degree. Many of our students and members have completed the educational requirements through ISW while pursuing their Masters or Doctorate degree or while completing requirements for provisional licensure.
