Advanced Sex Therapy
(CPSY 7552)
Dr.
Clifford and Joyce Penner share what they have learned
about men, women and sex in marriage during more than 30
years as sexual therapists and educators. This information
provides a basis for their approach to assessing and treating
sexual issues. This advanced course takes an in-depth look
at the necessary personal and professional qualifications
of an effective sexual therapist, the why’s of sexual
therapy and then both the theory and application of the
diagnosis and treatment of specific sexual dysfunctions.
The course trains professionals to effectively assess,
identify, understand sexual barriers and assist or find
the resources to assist couples to overcome problems of
destructive sexual relationship patterns, of sexual desire,
of arousal, of orgasm, and with intercourse (pain and unconsummated
marriages).

Prerequisite
As this is an advanced class involving discussion about
specific disorders and case studies. Students are required
to have completed CPSY 6512 and
CPSY 7532 before registering for
this class. There are no exceptions to this prerequisite
policy.
Course
Work
Students receive 2 credit hours of masters
level education from PSI for attending this course. As this
is a masters/post-masters level course, in addition to attendance
and reading, students are required to:
- Develop a sex history questionnaire/assessment
tool, and
- Bring to class a two page history of a specific sex
therapy case with which you have worked. Develop a treatment
protocol for this specific case during class with class
staffing of your case and the application of your assessment
tool to this case
Schedule
| This course is offered on a periodic
basis depending upon number of students interested
and professor availability. Generally, it is offered
in the late fall (November) of odd years (2005, 2007,
etc.) though this is subject to change.
